Abstract

In this bachelor project the effect of IL-10 on some key parameters of liver fibrosis was studied. The question that will be answered is whether IL-10 will be beneficial in the treatment of liver fibrosis. The inflammation of the RAW 264.7 cells was stimulated using LPS. Using different techniques, it was observed that LPS significantly increased the NO and IL-6 production. On the other hand, there was no significant increase in the MHC-II and TNF-a production observed. Pre-treatment of those RAW 264.7 cells with 50 ng/mL IL-10 significantly decreased the IL-6 production, whereas there was no significant effect on the other parameters like NO, MHC-II and TNF-a. In conclusion, this bachelor project did not provide enough evidence to answer the question whether IL-10 will be beneficial in the treatment of liver fibrosis. To answer that question, additional research to the same parameters as well as other parameters are required.
