Abstract

At the Nuclear Physics Institute (KVI) of the University of Groningen people worked on the AlCatraz Experiment. This experiment was designed to detect the calcium-41 isotope for determining the age of materials that contain Calcium, for example bones. The experiment was shut down because of low results on finding the calcium-41 isotope. I simulated the part of the experiment in which was believed most atoms were lost; the Zeeman slower. With improved algorithms and an extensive search for the best parameters I came up with an improvement with a factor of approximately 500. Which could have made the experiment feasible to determine the age.
