Abstract

The RAV Fryslân is responsible for the ambulance care in the province of Friesland. They will acquire a new ambulance helicopter to perform urgent patient transport from the Frisian Isles. The helicopter is expected to offer more capacity than necessary based on the estimated 250 yearly transports. This provides room for additional operations. During this research, alternative uses and network configurations of the ambulance helicopter were explored, with the aim of optimizing the network's effectiveness. The most promising networks were evaluated by means of a simulation tool that is specifically designed for the purpose of this research.
