Abstract

Knowledge management plays a major role in global software development nowadays. However, due to a lack of tools and the limited scopes of the tools that do exist, there is no proper tool that allows for the documentation of architectural decisions in the embedded system industry. We developed an add-in for Microsoft Visio with the aim to solve this problem, using the flexibility and large supply of components offered by Visio, allowing architects to document decisions from various viewpoints. During the creation of this add-in, we had to face several challenges: designing procedures for layout management, implementing undo and redo behaviour, and interacting with the Visio API in an object-oriented fashion. Although the add-in is fully functional in what it was required to do, further extensions are still possible.
