Abstract

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive, neurodegenerative disorder that causes cognitive deterioration, severe memory loss, impairments in abstraction and reasoning and impaired ability to perform daily living activities. There is a lot of effort to study methods to treat or mitigate the causes and effects of the disease. Danone- Nutricia has developed a multi-nutrient drink, Souvenaid, to aid the cognitive function in people with mild AD. In this thesis we focus on two subquestions within this study. First, we focus on the significance of the experimental intervention, allowing us to answer the more general question whether Souvenaid is beneficial to patients with AD or not. Then we describe and analyze the treatment effects looking for significant relations, using relevant statistical methods, such as mixed models.
