Abstract

Quenching timescale τ_q as a function of stellar mass was calculated using the eagle simulation to see if we could find similar trends as in Fillingham et al. (2015). For satellites with stellar masses of log10(M_⋆/M_⊙) = [9,11]: we have found a peak in τ_q–M_⋆ relation for intermediate mass satellites, at log10(M_⋆/M_⊙) ≈ 10; negative slope is observed for higher mass satellites log10(M_⋆/M_⊙) > 10; positive slope for lower mass satellites, log10(M⋆/M⊙) < 10. We have also shown that orbital properties (M_host, v_peri and r_peri) can dramatically affect τ_q while preserving the general trend. Similarly, internal properties R_half,⋆ and M_gas/M_⋆ suggest that higher and lower stellar mas satellites are dominated by different quenching mechanisms: RPS for lower masses, strangulation for higher masses. It appears that intermediate masses can effectively resist RPS, while having enough gas in their reservoirs to not be strangled by ICM for the next ≈ 6 Gyr after infall.
