Abstract

Lower-limb amputees experience a high cognitive load when using their prostheses. A system that could promptly recognize their motor intents could reduce their cognitive load; the research in this MSc project aims to show that artificial neural network techniques could realize such a system and help in reducing the cognitive load of lower-limb amputees. Various neural networks as classifiers have been applied to state-of-the-art kinematic data, obtained using inertial measurement units (IMUs), of healthy subjects to recognize his/her motor intent.
