Abstract
Music research has a long and inconsistent history where some studies indicate an effect of music on cognition while other research shows no such effect. This study highlights the subjectivity of music on cognition and falls in line with previous research showing varying and inconclusive results. The aim of this study has been to investigate the effects of music that persist after music exposure by making people perform a multi tasking experiment before and after music listening. Results lack strong evidence for an effect of music on task performance but gives an indication that answer times of questions are more likely affected than question correctness itself. This is likely caused by the participants freedom to take as much time as they want to answer questions. This is one of the insights amongst others presented to inform future research to decrease subjectivity in this field of research.
