Abstract

AkzoNobel, world leader in paints and coatings, focuses on delivering sustainable solutions for its customers. Every business unit aims to be more sustainable than its competitors. Therefore, AkzoNobel pays a lot of attention to sustainability aspects in the development of new technologies. A major development project within AkzoNobel is the FuzeBox, a coating technology that deposits an aluminum coating onto steel-based substrates. The technology seems to be promising, but AkzoNobel does not know whether the FuzeBox is more sustainable than competing technologies. Therefore, this research aims to provide the sustainability position of the FuzeBox technology relative to other aluminum coating technologies and give recommendations for further improvement.
