Abstract
In this thesis we will test a new discretization method for PARNASSOS, a CFD code used at the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands. PARNASSOS solves the steady RANS equations and is used to calculate the ow around a ship. The new discretization method is energy-preserving, which means that there is no loss of energy in the solution. As a result of that we hope that the solution is less grid dependent. This means that a higher level of accuracy can be obtained on the same grid and/or that on a coarser grid one can achieve the same accuracy in the solution. If a coarser grid can be used then the memory requirements of the computation will decrease and possibly the computation time as well. We will implement the new discretization method in PARNASSOS and then test it on a laminar and turbulent flat plate and on a model scale tanker, the latter is a good example of what PARNASSOS is used for.
