Abstract
The simulation of turbulent flows shows principal difficulties in the dominance of non-linear effects. The non-linear effects represent the interaction between scales smaller and larger than the filter scale. By modeling a turbulent ow, the filter scale is set at a suficient scale to avoid computational overkill. The Large Eddy Simulation is introduced such that the simulation is based on the larger scales, with taking the residual filter scales into account. The eddy viscosity has to balance the energy transfer between larger and smaller scales. Using an eddy viscosity model gives cheaper and faster simulations.
