Abstract

As part of a design study for a compact high rep-rate soft X-ray Free Electron Laser at the University of Groningen (ZFEL), we have performed an initial feasibility study of high rep-rate RF-photoguns: We have developed and benchmarked numerical models (finite element) that describe the dissipation of electromagnetic energy, heat transport and thermal expansion. The models are able to reproduce existing (low rep-rate) results and allow for studies in the high rep-rate domain.
