Abstract
The detection of breath and analysis forms a major application in medical field. It helps in detecting the abnormalities in the breathing pattern. Detection of these abnormalities may lead to prevention of chronic respiratory diseases. Many techniques are developed in order to detect the breathing pattern. This thesis dedicates to the technique for detecting and analyzing the breaths. We propose a simple experimental setup with an economical microphone and a laptop. We propose to record the breath of a human and perform analysis of the same in offline. We present an algorithm which detects the breaths and classify them according to their intensity levels. The algorithm proposed is used to analyze various breath sounds of humans with some breath disorders. We present our findings about the same in this thesis. Finally, we propose sleep stage classification as a potential application. We discuss briefly about sleep stage classification as well.
