Abstract
In this thesis the nonnegative selfadjoint extensions of nonnegative relations are considered. A nonnegative relation S has two important nonnegative selfadjoint extensions: the Friedrichs extension S_F and the Krein-von Neumann extension S_N. It is shown that these are extremal by Krein's inequalities. Using an auxilairy space it is shown that they have a factorization of the form S_N = J**J* and S_F = Q*Q**. The extremal nonnegative selfadjoint extensions are factorized in a similar way via T*T**, with Q in T in J*. Furthermore an application with differential operators on intervals with compact closure is considered.
