Abstract
AkzoNobel is world's largest global paints and coatings company. This study is aimed at AkzoNobel Decorative Coatings BV located in Wapenveld (ANW). ANW is a specialty site, it produces many types of paint in relatively low quantities. Service levels are insufficient and inventory cost are high due to the complexity of the products and a low availability of raw materials. Management would like to know whether inventory cost could be lowered while complying to the required service levels. Different policies to control inventories are evaluated in a simulation environment. The simulation shows how much can be gained in terms of service levels and inventory cost when applying the right control policy at ANW.
