Abstract
The demand of energy is rising while the need for green alternatives are growing. To realize these two goals at the same time a change in our energy production is needed. At this moment gas is used to supply low temperature industrial processes and room heating while other companies with processes where high temperatures are used throw away waste heat by cooling with seawater or cooling towers. Saving this waste heat and therefore lowering the gas consumption by households requires an alternative infrastructure, which goes by the name of district-heating. The aim of this report is to identify where and how measurements are done and how this system is controlled in practice. These control laws should then be translated in a mathematical formulation, which are used to make a Matlab model to simulate the district-heating network.
