Abstract

This thesis investigates the possibility for Icopal B.V. to recycle bitumen from (low) bituminous waste using switchable hydrophilicity solvents (SHS).These solvents can change from a hydrophobic to a hydrophilic state by addition of carbonic acid. This reaction results in a water-soluble bi-carbonate salt. The reverse reaction is done by stripping the CO2 in order to shift the equilibrium. The SHS used is N,N-dimethylcyclohexylamine (DMCA).
