Abstract
Nowadays, in the production industry, robots are often used for repetitive tasks. However, to survive in a competitive market, companies move to smaller production batches or even one-off production, and current robots are not appropriate for the required flexible tasks. The use of mobile robots is inevitable if it comes to achieving (high) flexibility in automated production processes, because free movement can be considered as the fundament for ultimate flexibility of a robot. The free movement of a mobile robot entails the necessity for navigation and more particular: positioning.
