Abstract

To measure the electric dipole moment (EDM) of Xenon-129 sufficient control of the applied electric field is required. The electro-optic properties of Lithium Niobate (LiNbO3) are exploited to develop a field sensor for an EDM experiment in Juelich. In this thesis the development and optimization of the LiNbO3 sensor is described. The sensor that has been developed can measure static electric fields on timescales of 1000 seconds, which is three orders of magnitudes longer than any commercially available device.
