Abstract
We study when the sum of divisors function attains perfect power values for an unrestricted argument and when it does so with perfect power arguments. We give a proof of the existence of infinitely many integers whose sum of divisors is a kth power, for any integer k, and we present several cubes whose sum of divisors is again a cube.
