Abstract

In this thesis the dynamics of an electric circuit is analyzed, where the system of Liénard equations are obtained. The Van der Pol equations are special Liénard equations, where it can be proven that these have a unique periodic solution, where all non-equilibrium solutions will tend to. When a parameter is added to the system it undergoes a Hopf bifurcation. The Neimark-Sacker bifurcation is a second Hopf bifurcation by using the periodic soltuion. This kind of bifurcation gives an invariant 2-dimensional torus.
