Abstract

The synthesis of thin layer PNZT spin-coated on a platinized silicon substrate was researched. The goal was to grow PNZT crystals in [100] orientation to gain the highest possible piezoelectric response. It was found that the platinum layer on top of the silicon was guiding the PNZT to grow in the [111] direction. This was solved by adding a seed layer of PTO which grows on the [100] direction. The highest percentage of [100] oriented crystals was 69%.
