Abstract
Aims: We aim to use wavelet transform to de-noise a spectral emission, thus disentangling spectral features from the noise, and automatically determine the continuum location. Methods: The multi-scale ´a’trous algorithm using a B3 cubic spline was used to wavelet transform the signal. De-noising was performed with hard threshold filtering which eliminates any wavelet coefficients below a certain noise threshold. Conclusions: The wavelet transform works well within limitations, both de-noising spectra and recovering the continuum location. However, it should first be compared to other methods to evaluate its effectiveness and efficiency.
