Abstract
The enzyme 1-deoxy-D-xylulose 5-phosphate synthase (DXS) catalyses the formation of 1-deoxy-Dxylulose 5-phosphate (DXP) through the formation of a ternary complex consisting of DXS, Dglyceraldehyde 3-phosphate and a complex of pyruvate and thiamine diphosphate. This formation of DXP is the initial step in the methylerythritol phosphate (MEP) pathway.
