Abstract
Electric vehicles (EVs) begin to replace combustion engine vehicles, as to achieve sustainable road transport. EV integration, however, does not come without its challenges. Large increase in electricity demand and evening peak load, excessive lithium use by batteries and range anxiety to mention a few. Many of these issues potentially derive from EV charging behaviour and conventional plug-in charging may not be able to sufficiently overcome these challenges. A novel way of charging might just be the last missing piece of EV deployment. A different approach such as WDPT can wirelessly charge vehicles as they travel, potentially mitigating some of the challenges EVs face. In this study, various WDPT and plug-in charging scenarios have been applied in Europe 2050, to assess their impact on the electricity grid and the environment.
