Abstract
In this study the influence of the geometry of a magnetically-actuated micro-swimmer is studied. This study is done by using a model that solves the magnetostatic, fluid and solid mechanics equations simultaneously. From these simulations it is found that increasing the length and width of a film is beneficial up until a limit when helical swimming is the desired locomotion, while the thickness is kept as low as possible. For undulating swimming it was found that increasing the length and the magnetic portion are beneficial up until a limit, while increasing the number of magnetic strips is detrimental for the swimming performance.
