Abstract
Linear Algebra is a course which many students struggle with. Teaching Linear Algebra is often regarded as a frustrating experience for lecturers as well. This is why I aim in this literature review study to provide some insight into the university students' understanding of the Linear Algebra concepts of span, linear independence, and basis, as well as look into the teaching approaches of these concepts at the university level. I found that for students to understand the concept of basis, they first need to understand the concepts of span and linear independence. Furthermore, when teaching the concept of span, approaching it in a real-world context (for example creating passwords) may help students avoid feeling disoriented. Research on the teaching of basis seems non-existent and would benefit from future research.
