Abstract

This thesis considers the feasibility of measuring the Bc+ and B+ branching fractions using the LHCb detector. More specifically, it considers the kinematic effects on the sensitivity of the Bc to Tau Nu decay at the LHCb. A branching fraction measurement at LHCb would be important as the Bc+ decay has not been experimentally observed before. The B+ and Bc mesons' production kinematics can differ as transverse momentum and pseudo-rapidity functions. To understand the effects of the kinematic difference, a f_c/f_u correction is used. The fraction f_c/f_u is a ratio of the production fraction for the Bc+ and the B+ mesons. The results of this correction for the kinematic differences are then propagated through to determine its effect on efficiency and signal yield, which would impact the ability to determine the Bc to Tau Nu branching fraction. The results showed a decrease in filtering efficiency and signal yield by a factor of three; however, an increase in total uncertainty means that distinguishing signal from the background is still possible though more complicated than before.
