Abstract
The supersingular isogeny Diffie-Hellman key exchange (SIDH) is a post-quantum cryptographic algorithm, which establishes secure communication between two parties. It works analogously to the Diffie-Hellman key exchange, but uses the group structure of elliptic curves and isogenies as a basis. Therefore, the fundamentals of elliptic curves as well as isogenies and their defining properties are introduced. Subsequently, the general SIDH is explained. Furthermore, a small-scaled example visualizes the protocol this new method of encryption offers. Finally, the paper briefly touches on the security of the SIDH algorithm clarifying why Shor’s algorithm, which breaks the traditional Diffie-Hellman key exchange, cannot break SIDH.
