Abstract

Liver fibrosis is characterized by accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM). When hepatic stellate cells are activated, they will contribute to the formation of ECM and thereby contribute to fibrosis. To target the progression of liver fibrosis, the PDGFB-receptor can be used since it is highly expressed in hepatic stellate cells. This thesis focusses on using a peptide, pPB-HSA, which specifically targets the PDGFB-receptor. Fibroferon will also be used which consists of the anti-fibrotic cytokine interferon gamma (IFNy) coupled to pPB. The cytoflex will be used to study the binding of pPB-HSA and Fibroferon to 3T3 cells which has not been done before. Together, these experiments can find a possible therapy to treat liver fibrosis.
