Abstract

This essay involves neuroinflammation as common pathogenesis between Alzheimers and depression. Amyloid beta pathology is discussed as overlapping mechanism between AD and late-life depression (LLD). Which induces inflammation. Moreover, the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) is discussed as it decreases inflammation in normal conditions but its hypersecretion is both linked to the development of AD and MDD. This GR is linked to cortisol and stress, which causes oxidative stress which is a common feature of LLD and AD. This thesis aims to find an overlapping mechanism between both diseases around neuroinflammation involving the abovementioned mechanisms. By investigating these mechanims the thesis aims to show future diagnostic utility of neuroinflammation in comorbid AD and depression.
