Abstract
This project presents the development of a novel, modular musculoskeletal model of a transhumeral amputee fitted with an Osseo integrated prosthesis, integrated into OpenSim for future biomechanical analysis. The study addresses the limited availability of modular and reusable simulation frameworks for upper limb prosthetics by constructing a parametric computer-aided design (CAD) of the prosthesis using SolidWorks and embedding it within an adapted version of the MoBL-ARMS OpenSim model. Design decisions regarding joint types and degrees of freedom were guided by an analysis of current commercial prosthetic technologies. Anatomically accurate dimensions and material properties were extracted and applied to ensure biomechanical realism, with titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V selected for its osseointegrative properties. The model incorporates prosthetic joint structures, updated segment masses and inertias, and a revised musculature reflecting a clinically realistic post-amputation musculoskeletal structure. While complete kinematic integration and dynamic simulation capabilities are still under development, the current model lays the groundwork for simulating upper-limb prosthetic use and offers a versatile platform for further research into control strategies, rehabilitation planning, and prosthesis design optimization.
