Abstract
Amanita Phalloides, with its main toxin α-amanitin, is one of the deadliest mushroom species, responsible for over 90% fatalities caused by mushrooms. Despite the availability of certain antidotes, there is no unified protocol for poisoning treatment, and some poisoning cases are still fatal. The liver is the main target of this toxin, with RNA Polymerase II inhibition as its initiating molecular event. However, other mechanisms, such as oxidative stress, inflammation, or intrinsic apoptosis, have been proposed as possible contributors to the toxicity and eventual cell death caused by alpha-amanitin. Therefore, this study aimed to better understand the possible mechanisms of toxicity and to determine their role and contribution to the toxic effects.
