Abstract
In this paper we give the background to give a basic understanding of the proof of Fermat’s last theorem as a corollary to the modularity theorem using what we call the modular method. With this method we solve other Diophantine equations that are similar to the Fermat equation. We discuss equations that are solved analogously, as well as equations that require more work to fully solve. The methods we use in specific examples can be generalized and lead to a roadmap for solving Diophantine equations using the modular method.
