Abstract
This bachelor thesis investigates to what extent smartphones and BLE-based sensor platforms are suitable for interactive physics education. Three platforms were characterized: a smartphone, the TI CC2650 SensorTag, and the Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense Rev2, testing their accelerometer and gyroscope sensors through static and rotation-based experiments. The Arduino produced the most accurate results, with deviations below 1.5% for the accelerometer and below 2.0% for the gyroscope. The smartphone performed comparably for the accelerometer, with a moderate speed-dependent overestimation in the gyroscope. The SensorTag showed the largest systematic deviations, requiring calibration for quantitative use, though its robust casing offers a durability advantage in classrooms. Two standalone experiments were also developed using Phyphox. A humidity-temperature experiment with external sensors on the Arduino demonstrated real-time wireless data acquisition, though the measured humidity deviated from theory, likely due to container leakage. A Mpemba effect experiment using waterproof probes did not observe the effect, consistent with its contested status in the literature. It is concluded that all three platforms, combined with Phyphox, are viable tools for low-cost, interactive physics experiments at secondary school and early university level, given their respective strengths and limitations.
