Abstract
Cospeciation, the process were speciation occurs through reciprocal selection and contemporaneous events between the associated lineages, has been studied in several cases for plant-herbivore interaction. Reviewing the studies I found that cospeciation is difficult to prove and in most cases strict cospeciation does not occur. However, proof has been found that cospeciation does occur in plantherbivore interactions only it is not clear how much of the speciation occurred can be described by the cospeciation hypothesis. To get a better understanding of the speciation processes in plant-herbivore interactions more research is essential. Hopefully that will give insight in how cospeciation occurs.
