Abstract
In this thesis, we explain and discuss various methods of proving the irrationality of both the constants e and pi. We will first work out and thoroughly explain these proofs, supplementing them with additional theorems and lemmas where necessary. We will then compare these methods and their complexity by looking at the mathematical concepts that are used, the results we obtain, as well as how well one method can be used to prove the irrationality of the other constant. With this, we conclude that showing the irrationality of pi is consistently more complicated than showing the irrationality of e.
