Abstract

After an extensive discussion of the spinor helicity formalism and BCFW recursion for gauge theory, we divert our attention to soft recursion for effective scalar field theories. In this thesis, we ask the question whether and when these scalar theories are on-shell constructible with specific focus on 'the gauged NLSM (non-linear sigma model)' and 'DBI-Lovelock (Dirac-Born-Infeld)' derived by Li et al. by imposing double copy compatibility on general sclar fields. Many results regarding these two theories remain inconclusive. Nevertheless, this thesis provides an organized and comprehensive introduction to topics within on-shell tree-level recursion with or without the use of soft limits.
