Abstract
This research presents the modeling of a power distribution grid, with distributed renewable energy sources and energy storage units. The distributed renewable energy sources that are modeled here are photovoltaics and a wind turbine. Furthermore an optimization approach is presented to analyze the impact of storage units on the utilization of the distributed renewable energy sources. Here a price-based optimization approach is used to solve the optimization problem in a distributed manner, while considering network capacity constraints. Simulations are done to show the influence of the storage units on the utilization of the renewable energy sources in different scenarios with a 24 hour time horizon. For every scenario a different storage capacity is taken under different environmental conditions (load in the network, and solar irradiation, temperature, and wind speeds). Especially the curtailment of active power generation and the prices due to the network capacity constraints are analyzed.
