Abstract
Hyperbolic toral automorphisms are naturally defined on the torus. These maps are chaotic on the entire torus but they can be completely described. They are induced by linear maps but they have a much more complex and rich dynamical structure due to their chaotic property. We study hyperbolic toral automorphisms using a Markov partition. A Markov partition allows us to apply symbolic dynamics to a dynamical system that is topologically equivalent to the original system.
