Abstract
This thesis describes a general statistical model for the problem of diversification of species. Diversification is a complex problem that has an enormous amount of variables influencing it. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully investigate what variables are important in the diversification process. The model described in this thesis uses GLM functions for the speciation and extinction rates of species, which ensures the model to be general since these functions may contain every possible variable. To simulate the model, we make use of the Gillespie algorithm. And for inference, the likelihood function of the model is maximized to be able to estimate the parameters of the GLM function.
