Abstract
The F-ATPase molecule is a molecular motor that can synthesise or hydrolyse the energy-rich ATP molecule. The enzyme consists of two parts, the membrane bound F0 part, and the F1 part. The F1 section of the enzyme is responsible for the catalysis of the reactions. In this thesis we will look at the structure of this part of the enzyme, and how this structure contributes to the catalysis of the hydrolysis and synthesis reactions.
