Abstract
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is worldwide a major health concern and the incidence has increased over time. There is, as of now, no medical intervention that significantly impacts AKI. A factor that can cause AKI is ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI), which is restriction of blood to the kidney followed by restored blood flow. Mitochondrial dysfunction plays a critical role in the progression of renal IRI. Here, we looked at murine precision-cut kidney slices (PCKS) as a model for renal IRI. Furthermore, a compound that theoretically improves mitochondrial functionality, SUL-138, was added during incubation to possibly combat kidney IRI
