Abstract
Inflation is the most successful theory in explaining the isotropy and flatness of the universe. The quantum mechanical perturbations dur- ing inflation are responsible for the inhomogeneities in our cosmos. There exist, however, many models of inflation. In an attempt of nav- igating in this abundance of possible theories, we study the non-linear symmetries of the quantum perturbations. After an introduction to the classical and quantum mechanical theory of inflation, we give a general background on the subjects of broken (gauge) symmetries, ef- fective field theory, large gauge symmetries and soft theorems. Subse- quently, we investigate the construction of a EFT of inflation based on broken time diffeomorphisms. Then, we will derive a set of consistency relations as a consequence of large gauge symmetries in cosmology. We pay special attention to the derivation of consistency relations in non- attractor models of inflation with the enhancement of a inflaton shift symmetry.
