Abstract
Foraging strategies are usually determined at a species or population level, while variation between individuals is overlooked. In this research the diet of a traditional considered specialist species, the red knot (Calidris canutus), is determined using video analyses. Of the 39 analysed individuals, 26 specialized in a diet consistent of either seagrass or molluscs. 13 individuals were considered generalists, feeding on both seagrass and molluscs. This research highlights the importance of individual foraging decisions in determining population or species foraging strategies.
