Abstract
Color blindness is considered to be a disability, and there seem to be many advantages to trichromatic color vision compared to dichromatic vision. But still dichromacy seems to be very prevalent in modern society. In this thesis the evolutionary history of color vision, the advantages and disadvantages of dichromatic color vision compared to trichromatic color vision and multiple theories that could explain the polymorphism of dichromacy and trichromacy in a population are discussed and reviewed. Furthermore my personal opinion on the matter will be presented based on the collected research.
