Abstract
The goal of this research project is to work on the pressure control and monitoring of the NEXT ion-guide, as to determine and recommend an optimal pressure for the highest ion transmission and bunching efficiency. A communication system between the Leybold GRAPHIX 2 gauge controller and the Influxdb database was established by creating new Python drivers. Initial measurements were performed from a range of 10^(–4) mbar to 10^(–2) mbar, using an offline version of the set-up. Measuring the Time of Flight (ToF) and counts up until the first MicroChannel Plate detector (MCP). A full analysis of the different parameters suggests an optimal pressure at approximately 1.0×10^(–2) mbar, giving almost 5 counts/ejection and a Full Width Half Maximum (FWHM) of 135 ns.
