Abstract
As the Netherlands strives toward its goal of achieving 100% sustainable energy by 2050, offshore wind energy plays a crucial role. This is due to the ideal location on the North Sea, which in combination with strong winds at sea, allows wind turbines to produce high levels of power. However, challenges like intermittency and turbine wake effects still need to be addressed in order to maximize wind farm potential. This project focuses on modeling the Hollandse Kust Noord wind farm using the SIMSEN software to better understand and predict offshore wind farm dynamics. The model involves realistic operational conditions, including wake effects and wind variability, to evaluate key performance metrics such as energy efficiency and power quality. By accurately capturing turbine interactions and environmental factors, the research lays the groundwork for future studies to improve the evaluation of wind farm performance. What makes this project particularly interesting is that it focuses on a real, existing wind farm in the North Sea, while other research studies mainly focus on optimizing wind turbine placements. Although the model isn't fully precise yet, it lays the groundwork for future analyses, such as integrating energy storage systems to address intermittency and improve grid stability.
