Abstract
Prescribing cascades occur when an adverse drug event is treated a new drug because it is seen as a separate indication. To combat prescribing cascades, researchers have developed the CASC-ADE knowledge documents. In the first part of this research was examined which databases gave usable sources for creating these knowledge documents. In the second part of this research was examined if an evaluation instrument created from parts of the AGREE II and the UEQ methods is suitable to test the usability of the knowledge documents. With supplied search strategies for Medline, Embase and Cochrane, three knowledge documents were drafted. During this, the origin of the sources was tracked. The developed evaluation instrument was tested with master students (medicine and pharmacy) by letting them evaluate a knowledge document with a survey consisting of open and closed questions. Here in was examined wether new aspects came forward that were not yet questioned in the new instrument. During the draft of the knowledge documents, the used sources came from Medline and Embase, none came out of Cochrane. The participants were generally positive about the documents and no new aspect came forward. The databases are with usable sources are Medline and Embase. The drafted evaluation instrument seems suitable to test the usability of the CASC-ADE knowledge documents.
