Abstract

Cataracts and refractive errors are common problems seen in the human eye. Intraocular lenses are used to either replace the crystalline lens or correct for errors. Even though lots of research is done on intraocular lenses complications still exist. This thesis focuses on the state of the intraocular lens and how we can solve the complications. Research in literature pointed out that a lot of improvements are made on intraocular lenses. Materials and designs are improving, coatings are used to improve biocompatibility, and surgical techniques change to minimize the damage done to the tissue. Concluding, the complications are very hard to prevent. In a few percent of patients these complications will occur even though science has reduced the probability of some complications to almost zero.
